BAINES BAGGULEY PENHALE
NORTH LANCASHIRE AND DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE
(MEMBERS OF THE LANCASHIRE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION)
As you are all probably aware there will be no Cup Finals this season on Giant-Axe. It has been taken out of our hands by Mr S Houghton Chairman of Lancaster City.
It took me three solid weeks to make contact with Mr R Coots the secretary of Lancaster City to book dates for our finals. The dates agreed upon was Monday April 18th, Tuesday April 19th, Monday April 25th, Thursday April 28th, Friday April 29th and Monday May 2nd 2016. These dates were agreed on Thursday and on Monday Mr Houghton said we couldn’t play any games after their last home game on Saturday April 23rd as from Monday April 25th the contractors would be in ready to start work on refurbishing the ground. He also said we couldn’t use Tuesday April 19th as it was too near Saturday April 23rd. I said the ground would be hard by then and he said I would rather you didn’t use it. With that it was agreed we wouldn’t be using Giant-Axe this season.
We haven’t always had permission to use Giant-Axe for our finals, we have used private grounds previously at Carnforth, Caton, Galgate Kirkby Lonsdale and others with kick-off times varying between 6-00pm and 6-30pm. We have for the last 10 seasons or so had an unbroken spell of using the facilities at Giant-Axe which we thank them for.
Don’t blame the Management Committee for not using
Giant-Axe for our Finals but Lancaster City. It was agreed previously it would cost the league £200 per game so Lancaster are missing out on that income plus the tea bar which was always well supported.
Holding finals on Giant-Axe created a good income for the league and helped keep subscriptions down to what they have been for a lot of years. As you may have noticed from the proposed rule amendments it has been agreed by the Management Committee to raise the subscriptions to make up for the lost revenue from Giant-Axe and Cup Finals
A sub committee met last night and decided ALL cup finals would be held on private grounds within our league.
