Eric Beniston

Dear Colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I have to report that long serving Life Member, Eric Beniston has passed away this morning in hospital.

Eric played amateur football in Nottingham for 21 years before qualifying as a referee in 1973.

He moved to Lancaster in 1977 where he joined the Lancaster and Morecambe Referees' Society. Eric refereed in the North Lancs League, Lancaster and Morecambe Sunday League and the Youth League. He took Society Senior roles on such as Treasurer and Referee Mentor where he mentor many of our Referees, including myself.

Just to confirm that Eric’s funeral arrangements have been confirmed by his family today. The funeral will take place on Thursday 1st March at the Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium at 2pm. The service will be followed by food at The Station Hotel in Caton.

‘‘Just double checked and we are doing donations to the cardiac care unit at the RLI Also as Granddad was a massive Nottingham Forest fan in his memory we have decided to wear an item of red clothing if people choose.’

The family have expressed their thanks for the messages so far.

Kind Regards,

Alistair Stewart
Lancaster & Morecambe Referee Society Chairman & Secretary

Lancashire RA Chairman
